Red Dress Fashion Competition
The Project Red Dress competition is back!
“It’s Raining Red” will be the theme of the Cardiology Associates Foundation 2010 Red Dress Fashion Event plan, throughout the month of February 2010, and one of the plan highlights will be the second “Project Red Dress” design competition.
“In 2008 we added a little extra fun and competition to the Cardiology Associates Foundation Red Dress events to showcase some of our local amateur and professional designers,” said Shelley Kelley, Project Red Dress Competition Chairman. “We added our first design competition where designers created their own “Red Dress”, competed for prizes and we showcased the designs with our National Red Dress Display at the Mall at Turtle Creek and in our Red Dress Fashion Show.”
After the first competition, we decided to offer the “Project Red Dress” competition every other year during the Cardiology Associates Foundation annual Red Dress events and campaign for the awareness of women and heart disease, Kelley said.
The “Project Red Dress” competition is for amateurs and professionals. To enter their red dress design, and it be modeled in the style show, all designs must be original. Entries must be after 5 cocktail wear to formal gowns, long or short will be accepted. The theme of Red Dress must be followed with the majority of the color of the garment being red or solid red, Kelley said.
Amateurs are entrants who are fashion design students or who are not monetarily compensated for fashion design work. Professionals are entrants who have worked, or are currently working in the fashion design industry and are monetarily compensated for their work.
“We have also added categories for juniors and teens to participate in the competition sponsored by Clark’s Bridal and Formal,” said Kelley. “Ages 9-12 qualify as Juniors and ages 13-18 qualify as Teen.”
““Project Red Dress” designs will be displayed , February 25-27, at the Mall at Turtle Creek along with the selected national red dress designs, created by the most prestigious designers and fashion houses in the Unites States,” said Kelley. “Designs in our Project Red Dress competition will also be modeled in the 2010 It’s Raining Red fashion show on February 26, at the Valley View Performing Arts Theater.”
Persons interested in “Project Red Dress” can get the complete rules and entry forms at Clarks Bridal and Formal Wear in Jonesboro, by going to www.arkheartfoundation.org or by calling 870-336-2068 for a mailed or emailed copy.
“The Cardiology Associates Foundation is a partner with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and one its’ focuses is to work year round to make women more aware of the danger of heart disease through the Heart Truth campaign.,” said Dr. Courtney Hoffman, 2010 Red Dress Chairman. “The campaign's goal is to give women a personal and urgent wakeup call about their risk of heart disease.”
The campaign is especially aimed at women ages 40 to 60, the time when a woman's risk of heart disease starts to rise. But its messages are also important for younger women, since heart disease develops gradually and can start at a young age-even in the teenage years. Older women have an interest too—it's never too late to take action to prevent and control the risk factors for heart disease. Even those who have heart disease can improve their heart health and quality of life.
“The centerpiece of The Heart Truth is the Red Dress, which was introduced as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 by NHLBI,” Hoffman said. The Red Dress® reminds women of the need to protect their heart health, and inspires them to take action.”
